First Race...complete!

Its official!  I have completed my first race....it was a 5k around Lake Harriet in Minneapolis.  It was the Recycle Run on April 22....my neighbor about a month ago asked if I would want to try it with him...it was his first race as well...and he had a 50% off discount for the event....and I thought sure why not....now my current workout regiment does not have running in it....I mainly do my workout videos (Insanity) during the week and I try to bike on the weekends (if the weather is warm enough....which it has not been consistently...so I have actually been doing more of the workout videos)....I usually workout anywhere from bare minimum of 5 days a week upwards of the full 7....just depends on whats going during the weekend...so anyway...I really wanted to try to get out and hit the pavement prior to the race....but like I said the weather has been brutal these past few weeks on the weekend (when I would have the opportunity to go out by myself)....I was only able to run one sunday morning...and it was still freezing!....so I had no idea what to expect for the race....and I had no idea how I would do...now my husband used to be a runner back when we lived in VAB....he was into hardcore until he got shin splints so bad he had to quit....he is currently trying to get back into it....but again the weather and time is factor for him....but he gave me advice that just do your best....not very many people can even say they have completed one....so I gave a it go....I also knew that there was no way I would be able to keep up with my neighbor....he runs and is doing very well at it....I started with him, but once we got the first hill...I was done with that....so I set my own goals...to run as much as I could until I felt like I was going to pass out or puke...(words of advice from my husband as well)....then I walked until I recovered....then started up that cycle again....I know that I ran the first mile and half....and did the run/walk the rest of the way....and I know at the half way point I was having serious thoughts of why the hell did I decide to do this....(but this is normal for me....especially when I am out on my bike....but I know that once I start I have to finish)....but I made it...and at the end it was amazing...you find speed and energy in you that you have no idea you even had...Andrew said this would happen with all the people cheering you on....and then he also said as soon as its over you feel like your going to fall over...jello legs....and yes that is true too!

Here's a couple pics from the event:

Pre-race...getting ready!

Andrew took this as I brought it home!

I am so happy I did it...its an amazing feeling that I have crossed this off my bucket list...and I was even happy with my results...at first we thought I did 30 minutes and some change...but it was a timed chip event...so when we got home I was able to find the actual results....and I completed it in 29:54...Andrew said that I did awesome...his first 5k he has at 28 or 29....and since I don't really run....I am actually surprised at my time!!!

The funny part is as soon as we were done...we were contemplating our next race!
